The GIS Datasets listed below are for use in GIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS or others that can read or import shapefile format.  Go to Buy Maps, if instead you wish to purchase a printed map, or select an online mapping tool to interactively select mapped layers to your desired zoom.

AQUIFERS: Includes Denver Basin Aquifer, Fountain Aquifer, and Valley Fill Aquifer (Arkansas River).


DESIGNATED BASINS AND MANAGEMENT DISTRICTS: Designated Basins refer to several geographic areas between the front-range and the state's eastern border where ground water has been determined to be Designated Ground Water. There are eight: Upper Black Squirrel Creek, Upper Big Sandy, Upper Crow Creek, Lost Creek, Camp Creek, Kiowa Bijou, Northern High Plains, and Southern High Plains. A Management District is an area within a designated basin formed by action of the Colorado Ground Water Commission and is managed by a board of directors. There are thirteen: Central Yuma, Marks Butte, Frenchman, W-Y, Sand Hills, Plains, East Cheyenne, Southern High Plains, Upper Black Squirrel Creek, North Kiowa Bijou, Lost Creek, Arikaree, and Big Sandy.


DISTRICT BOUNDARIES: District boundaries are administrative boundaries set by the State Engineer, which are based primarily on stream drainage systems. There are 78 Districts.

There are 7 Divisions, South Platte River Basin, Arkansas River Basin, Rio Grand Basin, Gunnison River Basin, Colorado River Basin, Yampa / White River Basins, and Dolores / San Juan River Basins.


DRG (Digital Raster Graphics): DRGs or USGS topographic maps are available for free at http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/ . Please refer to the Data GateWay website's FAQ tab for further assistance.


WATER BODIES: Includes Lakes, Reservoirs, etc. taken from 1:100,000 DLGs.


WATER WELL APPLICATIONS: Water well applications received by the State Engineer. Updated nightly.


RIVERS STATEWIDE: Historic Statewide Rivers and Streams taken from 1:100,000 DLGs.  The 1:24,000 National Hydrography Dataset for the year can be found on the CDSS website.  The current National Hydrography Dataset can be found on the NHD website.

 

Rivers by Division - Derived from 1:100,000 DLGs.  The data listed below are historic datasets.
