AQUIFERS: Includes Denver Basin Aquifer, Fountain Aquifer, and
Valley Fill Aquifer (Arkansas River).

DESIGNATED BASINS AND MANAGEMENT DISTRICTS: Designated Basins refer
to several geographic areas between the front-range and the state's eastern border where
ground water has been determined to be Designated Ground Water. There are eight: Upper
Black Squirrel Creek, Upper Big Sandy, Upper Crow Creek, Lost Creek, Camp Creek, Kiowa
Bijou, Northern High Plains, and Southern High Plains. A Management District is an area
within a designated basin formed by action of the Colorado Ground Water Commission and is
managed by a board of directors. There are thirteen: Central Yuma, Marks Butte, Frenchman,
W-Y, Sand Hills, Plains, East Cheyenne, Southern High Plains, Upper Black Squirrel Creek,
North Kiowa Bijou, Lost Creek, Arikaree, and Big Sandy.

DISTRICT BOUNDARIES: District boundaries are administrative boundaries set by the
State Engineer, which are based primarily on stream drainage systems. There are 78
Districts.

set by the State Engineer, which are based primarily on stream drainage systems.
There are 7 Divisions, South Platte River Basin, Arkansas River Basin, Rio Grand Basin,
Gunnison River Basin, Colorado River Basin, Yampa / White River Basins, and
Dolores / San Juan River Basins.

for free at http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/ .
